Microneedling -
Collagen Induction Therapy CIT

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy/ CIT, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device containing fine needles. These needles create tiny punctures or "micro-injuries" in the skin. The purpose of microneedling is to stimulate the body's natural wound healing processes, leading to increased collagen and elastin production.

During the procedure, your Aesthetician will use a microneedling device to gently puncture the skin's surface. The depth of the needles can vary depending on the specific treatment goals and the area being treated. The micro-injuries created by the needles trigger the body's natural healing response, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin fibers.

Microneedling can be used to address a variety of skin concerns, including:

  1. Fine lines and wrinkles

  2. Acne scars

  3. Enlarged pores

  4. Uneven skin tone and texture

  5. Stretch marks

  6. Hair stimulation

The procedure is relatively quick and typically requires minimal downtime. Some redness and mild swelling may occur immediately following the treatment, but these side effects generally subside within a few days. Patients typically notice improvements in their skin's appearance over the following weeks and months as new collagen and elastin are produced.

During the procedure, a targeted infusion of Vitamins or Polynucleotides are applied to the skin to enhance results.

It's important to consult with your Aesthetician or qualified healthcare professional before undergoing microneedling to determine if it's the right treatment option for your skin concerns. Additionally, it's essential to follow post-treatment care instructions provided by your provider to optimise results and minimize the risk of complications.

Aftercare

After undergoing a microneedling procedure, proper aftercare is essential to promote healing, optimize results, and minimise the risk of complications. Here are some general guidelines for microneedling aftercare:

  1. Keep the treated area clean: Avoid touching the treated area unnecessarily, and do not apply makeup or other skincare products for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Your provider may recommend a gentle cleanser for washing the area.

  2. Moisturize: Use a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated and promote healing. Your provider may recommend specific products or ingredients suitable for post-microneedling care.

  3. Avoid sun exposure: Protect the treated area from direct sunlight for at least a few days following the procedure. If you need to go outside, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, and wear protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses.

  4. Avoid strenuous exercise: Refrain from engaging in strenuous physical activities or activities that cause excessive sweating for at least 24 to 48 hours after microneedling. Sweating can irritate the skin and increase the risk of infection.

  5. Avoid exfoliation: Avoid using harsh exfoliants, scrubs, or abrasive skincare products for at least one week post-procedure. Let the skin heal naturally without interfering with the exfoliation process.

  6. Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated, which can aid in the healing process and maintain skin health.

  7. Follow post-procedure instructions: Your provider will provide specific post-procedure instructions tailored to your skin type and the depth of microneedling performed. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure optimal results and minimize the risk of complications.

  8. Be patient: Results from microneedling may take time to become noticeable, as collagen remodeling and skin regeneration occur gradually over several weeks to months. Be patient and consistent with your aftercare routine for the best outcomes.

If you experience any unusual or severe side effects, such as excessive redness, swelling, pain, or signs of infection, contact your healthcare provider immediately for further guidance and treatment.
